Privacy for Study Cloud

Study Cloud Privacy Policy

Effective Date: June 14, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains how Study Cloud ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our mobile application and related services (collectively, the "App"). By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use the App.

Study Cloud is a study organization app that lets you upload images (such as notes, formulas, and diagrams), assign custom labels to them, and search, view, and manage them later. Images you upload are stored using Cloudinary, a third-party cloud storage and media management service, to enable the App's storage, backup, and restore features.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Information You Provide

  • Study images: photos, screenshots, notes, formulas, diagrams, and similar images that you choose to upload.

  • Labels and metadata: custom labels, titles, or descriptions you create to organize and search your images.

  • Communications: information you provide when you contact us for support or feedback (such as your email address, if you choose to email us).

The App does not require you to create an account, and we do not collect your name or email address as part of normal App use.

1.2 Information Collected Automatically

  • Device information: device type, operating system, and unique device identifiers, which may be used to manage your storage and app functionality.

  • Usage data: app interactions, feature usage (such as searches, label creation, and image views), and crash or performance logs.

1.3 Information Stored via Third-Party Services

  • Your uploaded images and associated labels are stored on Cloudinary, a third-party cloud media management service, under our Cloudinary account.

  • Information from Adsterra, our advertising partner, used to display ads within the App.

2. How We Use Your Information

  • To provide, operate, and maintain the App and its features.

  • To store your uploaded images and labels via Cloudinary, and to retrieve, display, and search them when you use the App.

  • To enable backup and restore of your saved images and labels.

  • To personalize your experience and improve the App.

  • To display advertisements, including personalized ads based on your usage and device data.

  • To analyze usage trends and monitor the performance of the App.

  • To communicate with you about updates, security alerts, and support requests.

  • To detect, prevent, and address technical issues, storage abuse, or violations of our terms.

  • To comply with legal obligations.

3. Advertising and Third-Party Services

We work with Adsterra, a third-party advertising network, to display advertisements within the App. Adsterra and its partners may collect and use information about your device and usage activity, including advertising identifiers, to deliver ads that may be relevant to your interests and to measure ad performance.

Adsterra may use cookies, SDKs, or similar technologies as part of its advertising services. We do not control Adsterra's data practices, and its use of your information is governed by Adsterra's own privacy policy. Depending on your device and region, you may be able to limit ad tracking through your device settings (for example, "Limit Ad Tracking" or "Opt out of Ads Personalization") or through your operating system's privacy controls.

We may also use third-party analytics providers to help us understand how the App is used.

4. Your Uploaded Images and Cloudinary Storage

The App allows you to upload images (such as notes, formulas, and diagrams) and assign custom labels to organize and search them. These images and labels are stored on Cloudinary, a third-party cloud storage and media management provider, using a cloud storage account that we control. While the App's free storage allowance (up to 25GB) is provided through this arrangement, your images are not shared with other users of the App and remain accessible only through your device and the App's features, unless you choose to share an image outside the App (for example, by opening it in your browser and sharing the link).

Please be mindful of the personal information you choose to include in any images or labels you upload, as you are responsible for the content you save.

Cloudinary's handling of stored data is also subject to Cloudinary's own privacy policy and terms of service.

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We may share your information in the following circumstances:

  • With Cloudinary and other service providers who perform services on our behalf, such as cloud storage, hosting, analytics, and customer support, under appropriate confidentiality obligations.

  • With Adsterra, as described in Section 3, to deliver and measure advertisements.

  • To comply with applicable laws, regulations, legal processes, or governmental requests.

  • To protect the rights, property, or safety of Study Cloud, our users, or others.

  • In connection with a merger, acquisition, financing, or sale of assets, subject to this policy or a successor policy.

6. Data Retention

We retain your information for as long as you continue to use the App and store content within it. If you delete your content or uninstall the App, we will delete or anonymize the associated information within a reasonable period, except where we are required to retain certain information for legal, security, or legitimate business purposes.

7. Your Rights and Choices

7.1 Content Management

  • You can view, search, and delete your saved images and labels directly within the App at any time.

  • Deleting an image or label within the App will remove it from Cloudinary storage, subject to the retention exceptions described in Section 6.

7.2 Regional Privacy Rights

Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information, including the right to:

  • Access, correct, or delete your personal data.

  • Object to or restrict certain processing, including for advertising purposes.

  • Request a copy of your data in a portable format.

  • Withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

  • Lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

These rights may include those provided under the EU/UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA) and other US state privacy laws, and similar laws in other jurisdictions. To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 11.

8. Children's Privacy

The App is not directed to children under the age of 12 (or the minimum age required by applicable law in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from such children. If we become aware that we have collected personal information from a child without verification of parental consent, we will take steps to delete that information. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us using the details in Section 11.

9. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures designed to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

10. International Data Transfers

As Study Cloud is used by individuals in multiple countries, your information may be transferred to, stored, and processed in countries other than the one in which you reside, including countries that may have different data protection laws. Where required, we take steps intended to ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place for such transfers.
